Flashing Repair – Caulking & Sealing
The flashing around your chimney keeps water from getting under the shingles on your roof and entering the attic area, as well as keeping water from soaking bricks and mortar on the lower part of the chimney. Frequently the caulking that seals the flashing to the chimney is cracked or opened and sometimes missing altogether. Other times the flashing was not properly installed in the first place.
In all situations, the flashing needs to be properly caulked and sealed to prevent water damage to both the chimney brickwork as well as the wooden structure of the home. It is also a good idea to paint the flashing to prevent rust and, well, just because it looks nice.
