Mortar Repair & Pointing
The mortar joints on chimneys are often damaged from water penetration and frost damage. This can range from hairline cracks or minor chipping to large missing pieces. Provided the damage is not too extensive it can be pointed and repaired or in the case of minor cracks they can be sealed with a professional crack sealer. Once the mortar has been sealed and repaired we apply breathable water repellent to the entire surface of the bricks and mortar to stop water penetration and allow any humidity inside the bricks or chimney to evaporate.
If the mortar has suffered extensive damage or there are spalled bricks the only real solution is a complete rebuild, so best to have your chimney checked out before there are problems visible from the ground.
